Janette Wagner, Assistant Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Director and Custom Fit Field Representative, provides business consulting services and business training at the Snow College Richfield Business Resource Center. She serves clients in Piute, Wayne, and Sevier Counties.
In addition, Janette runs the Women in Business program, providing training for women in the six-county region including an annual Women in Business Conference.
Before working full-time for the SBDC, Janette worked for USU Extension, owned and operated Leadership Education Academy, and trained for a regional mentoring company. She brings leadership techniques, business knowledge, social media/marketing expertise, as well as mentoring, coaching, and counseling experience to this position.
At the onset of the pandemic, Janette became a Certified Remote Work Professional. The course helped her be effective and productive while working from home during that time and showed her the value of the ROI program. "Rural communities have unique needs and demographics and it's great to see organizations striving to better serve those communities,” she said. Janette is pleased to continue working with ROI in her new role at Snow College. | | | | | | | | | |
Do you have a question about remote work? Our courses? Something you learned in one of our classes? Submit your questions and we will answer your question in a future newsletter and have one of our experts follow up with you to discuss specific ways we can help.
Question:
I remember we used Slack in the class. Is there any post-class info and activities in Slack that I could be a part of so I could familiarize myself with that program again? (Michele)
Answer: The best way to use Slack after the class would be:
- Check the job postings channel at least weekly. We share jobs there as often as we can.
- Participate or share things in the public channels (General, Sharing, Random, etc.) If you see information that is good to share, share it. If someone else posts something, interact with them.
- Ask questions or ask for help. Questions are a great discussion starter and those who actively check Slack are often inclined to participate in discussions started with a question.
- Share successes in the Success channel. Even if it is not a remote job, any success in the process should be celebrated. We’ll celebrate any job! Did you have a great interview? Talk about it. Did you learn a lesson that will help others? Share it in the Success channel.
- Stay connected with your Program Coordinator. Slack is a great way to have a virtual conversation with your PC. Send your resume before applying for a job to get it reviewed. Ask for help with an interview, or ask for help with anything job search related. We are always happy to help.
- Invite friends and family to take our class. If they take our class, they'll be on our Slack workspace with you.
